Bhubaneswar, Sep 16 A Malaysian cargo ship which had been stranded near Odisha’s Chilika Lake since August 7 was finally towed into deep sea on Sunday night, a district official said.

A special tug boat from Singapore and a 15-member team from Malaysia successfully towed the stranded ship into the deep sea after several hours of effort, the official said.

The cargo ship which was on its way to Visakhapatnam had drifted towards the Odisha coast due to technical glitch.

The ship, with 10 crew members, had anchored near Rajhans beach, close to the Chilika lake.

The Indian Coast Guard had expressed fear of oil leakage from the ship, following which Odisha government on August 28 began the process of extracting oil from the ship.

Nearly 32,000 litres of oil were salvaged, through a 700-metre long pipe, from the ship by a team from Bangladesh.

Leuven (Belgium): Rising Indian shuttler and previous junior World No. 1 Lakshya Sen dazed second seed Victor Svendsen of Denmark in straight games to secure the men’s singles title at the Belgian International Challenge badminton competition here, Saturday.

Lakshya Sen was taking care of business as he indented up an agreeable 21-14, 21-15 win over Svendsen in the title conflict which went on for 34 minutes.

The 18-year-old from Almora had before beaten Denmark’s Kim Bruun 21-18, 21-11 win in a 48-minute elimination round conflict Friday night.

The primary round of the elimination round was a nearby undertaking at first with Lakshya and Bruun trading leads much of the time before the Danish shuttler hopped to a 11-9 bit of leeway at the break. Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 16 : Kerala on Monday inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Maldives to strengthen cancer care in the island nation.

The MOU was signed here between Maldivian Minister Abdulla Ameen and Kerala Health Minister K K Shylaja in the presence of the state Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Vijayan later told reporters that the Kerala government and the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) have jointly signed the MOU with the health ministry of Maldives as part of improving cooperation between the two countries.

“The ties between Maldives and Kerala are very strong. Several people from that country visit the state for various treatments, including cancer,” he said.

Kerala was responding to the plea of the Maldivian government that Kerala should help that country in the field of cancer treatment, Vijayan said.

The state health department and RCC would also provide support in setting up cancer care centres in Maldives and their doctors, nurses, pharmacists and para medical staff would be provided training at RCC, Shylaja said.
